The story is set in 1953 in Massachusetts. It´s about a teacher who started working in the University of Wellesley. Wellesley University was a very conservative girl University, Katherine Watson (Julia Roberts), became the art history teacher for the first year. She was not conservative at all, so everybody tought she was subversive.
She rented a room in a house where she found a true friend. She wanted to overcome society barriers...
The acting is excellent, and i think the film is great. The photography is very nice as well.
